Syracuse, home to what’s billed as the nation’s only upside down traffic light -- operating in the predominantly Irish neighborhood of Tipperary Hill at the intersection of Tompkins Street and Milton Avenue -- spills over with equally inventive restaurants in assorted price ranges to satisfy varied cravings. Blue Tusk on Walton Street serves appetizers, dirty chips, soups and sandwiches, along with wines and 20-ounce Imperial pints of lager. Clark’s Ale House on Jefferson Street has more than two dozen taps lined up and a couple of casks behind the counter. In Liverpool, none other than the Heid’s of Liverpool, established in 1883, draws from all around, peddling tons of hot dogs, plus t-shirts proclaiming "I Stood in Line at Heid’s." Ichiban Japanese Steak House does rolls from California to dragon. Other Greater Syracuse chains abound, from Applebee’s, Arby’s, Denny’s and Pizza Hut to IHOP, Hooters and more.
